Most of us need to
lose few pounds. Some need to gain some.
Optimal weight is very important, because it supports better health, better
attitude, better self image and confidence. It is difficult to know what your
optimal weight is, especially since not too many of us are ready to accept the
facts.
There is a very simple rule that you can follow to classify
yourself:
Look at yourself in a mirror. If you can't tell where your
collar bone is, you are very much overweight. If you can't see the whole length
of your collar bone, you are lightly overweight. If you can count your
ribs, you are underweight.
There are many diets out there that you can follow to help you achieve
your optimal weight. You should choose the one that fits the best your taste,
your life style, and most importantly, the one you will stay with for a long time. Which ever diet you choose, there are few general
rules to follow.
All diets need to be followed for a long time. The best diet is
the one that changes your life style forever.
¨
Eat only if you are hungry. Try to have 3 meals and 2 snacks a
day. Do not eat after a certain time in the evening (8:00pm is a good mark).
¨
Don't eat
while watching TV, reading, or using your computer. Pay
attention to the food you are eating. Respect it. Eat slow, chew well. Drink a
lot of water, at least 8 glasses a day. All other drinks should be enjoyed only occasionally
(once a week, or once a month are good options).
¨
Pick good quality foods. It is better to eat fresh uncooked
fruits and vegetables than the canned or cooked ones. Prepare your food yourself.
The love and effort you put into it will make it taste better. Avoid foods that
contain sugar, white flour, and processed oils.
¨
The
most perfect snack in the world is an apple. Other fruits will
do too.
¨
Limit the size of your meal. Don't make more food than what you
are going to eat.
¨
Don't buy too much food. You should not have more than a 4 to 5
days supply of anything.
¨
Leave out of your
diet all sugars, process grains and processed oils.
